Maternity Portraits
Celebrating the beginning of your greatest adventure.
There are moments in life that change everything.
Becoming a mother is one of them.
For just a few short months, your world is filled with anticipation, wonder, and the quiet realization that life will never be quite the same. It's a season that passes quickly, yet leaves an imprint on your heart forever.
A maternity portrait session is about more than documenting your pregnancy. It's about celebrating your strength, your beauty, and the incredible journey you're on as you prepare to welcome a new life.
Whether this is your first baby or you're growing your family, these portraits become a gift—not only for you, but one day for your child, who will see just how deeply they were loved before they were ever born.
Because years from now, these photographs won't simply remind you that you were expecting.
They'll remind you how it felt to dream about the little person you couldn't wait to meet.
Planning your Maternity Session
When Should I Schedule My Maternity Session?
The ideal time for maternity portraits is between 28 and 32 weeks of pregnancy.
Around seven months, your baby bump is beautifully defined, and most mothers-to-be are still comfortable enough to enjoy walking, changing outfits, and moving naturally during the session.
If you're expecting multiples or have a high-risk pregnancy, we may recommend scheduling a little earlier.
The best time to reserve your session is during your second trimester, ensuring plenty of flexibility on the calendar.
Maternity Session Checklist
Preparing for Your Portrait Experience
A little preparation helps create timeless portraits you'll treasure for generations.
✔ Schedule Early
Reserve your session during your second trimester. We typically photograph maternity portraits between 28 and 32 weeks.
✔ Choose Meaningful Clothing
Flowing dresses, fitted gowns that highlight your baby bump, soft knits, or elegant fabrics all photograph beautifully.
Solid colors and timeless styles help keep the focus where it belongs—on you and your growing baby.
✔ Include Your Family
Partners, siblings, and even grandparents are always welcome to be part of your session.
These portraits celebrate the beginning of a family's next chapter.
✔ Professional Hair & Makeup
While never required, professional hair and makeup can help you feel confident and relaxed in front of the camera.
✔ Moisturize Your Skin
Hydrated skin photographs beautifully. Applying moisturizer the night before and the morning of your session helps create a soft, natural glow.
✔ Get Plenty of Rest
Pregnancy is tiring. A restful night and plenty of water the day before your session will help you feel your best.
✔ Bring Personal Touches
Consider bringing:
- Baby shoes
- Ultrasound photos
- A special blanket
- A meaningful heirloom
- Your baby's first outfit
- Fresh flowers
These small details help tell your family's unique story.
✔ Trust the Process
You don't need to worry about posing.
I'll gently guide you throughout the session so you feel comfortable, beautiful, and confident while creating portraits that feel natural and authentic.
Choosing the Perfect Location
One of my favorite questions to ask is:
"What place do you want your child to see years from now?"
Perhaps it's the beach where you and your partner fell in love.
A quiet mountain meadow.
Or My Studio where we can be creative with lighting and fashion.
